on heat.

June 4, 2010

i like heat. preferably ambient heat that can be basked in, not applied, direct heat like the metal roof on my bathroom that burns to the touch. i’m not a big fan of winter, snow, ice, and car accidents, so a perk of peace corps: cambodia meant that i get to skip two midwestern winters. it turns out there is still a lot of ice and car accidents here, but the ice comes from secret ice factories and the car accidents usually happen on very dry, bumpy roads. you know that stereotype of asian drivers being really slow, bad drivers? it’s not true. they’re actually really FAST, bad drivers. i knew it was going to be hot here. but there’s really no way to describe it without being here. i’ve heard some cambodians saying that ‘this year is the hottest it’s ever been in cambodia.’ the hot season has been dragging on for a bit longer than most people thought it would. it’s like the thermostat is broken, but we’ve all made some sort of unspoken agreement to just deal with it until next year. there have been many days that i’ve thought ‘okay, this is the hottest day i will ever, ever, see.’ but then the next day tops it. as if waking up from a nightmare, i wake up sweating. i bike six kilometers to my school, and want to do nothing but turn around and head back home to take a cold bucket shower. but there’s only so many showers that you can take in a day, right? it’s not a nightmare, though. i actually had a dream that that rainy season was going to start annnny day now

there’s a fine line between describing something ‘unpleasant’ and complaining about it. if you’re confused, refer to the first three words of this post. i’d still rather be here. trust me.

Hi!!!!! I miss you. And….I also saw a condom raptor just a day or two ago and thought of you immediately. Luckily, it was only more like half a condom raptor…so it wasn’t all that dangerous.
