album of the (half) year.
August 8, 2010
i parenthesized half because i’m not a time traveler. but i’m willing to bet that nothing in the next 4 months will top this album. emancipator’s sophomore album, this is a follow up to his 2007 album “soon it will be cold enough.” whiskey on the rocks, dim lighting, and “soon it will be cold enough” was my surefire stress buster in college, and that’s why it’s now one of my most-played albums and also why i am so incredibly, so unbelievably stress free. somehow, emancipator has made the best even better and yet remains relatively unknown out there in music land. “safe in the steep cliffs,” similar to “soon it will be cold enough,” creates an hour long musical theme that can take you on a listening experience like no other. pay for this album if you’re able to, because i want emancipator to keep doing what he’s doing for a very long time.
just listen to the first track on the album, “greenland.” let the music wash your worries away and pretend you’re watching the sunset turn the gulf of thailand into a messy spash of vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows.
