“sometimes you put walls up not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.”
what makes a [true] friend?
is it somebody that keeps in contact with you often, to check upon your well-being? or is it possibly somebody that can go years without contact, a person that doesn’t believe that time has an affect on formed friendships? at what point does a ‘friend’ become an ‘old friend’? and at what point does an ‘old friend’ become ‘a person i know’, or even… ‘a person i used to know’?
what makes a [good] friend?
is it a person with similar interests and an identical knowledge base in order to nicely complement the other person and allow a seemingly seamless bond to form? or is it somebody who is able to be a teacher as well as a friend, exhibiting and sharing skills and comprehension of foreign subjects to you (and me)? does it even need to be somebody with anything to offer? does there even need to be a common language?
these questions will never have concrete answers, but these are things that go through my head during my two years of solitude.
